In line with the national anti-fraud legislative framework, Taiwan has passed the draft amendments to certain provisions of the “Money Laundering Control Act” on July 16, 2024.
Under the new law, specifically Article 6, regulation of virtual asset services is strengthened. It introduces a registration system, known as the Anti-Money Laundering Registration, for businesses or individuals providing virtual asset services in Taiwan. Those who offer such services without completing the registration will face criminal penalties.
This new legislation marks Taiwan’s formal entry into the international trend of virtual asset regulation. Implementing the registration system will aid in ensuring compliance and the practical application of cryptocurrencies.
